Amidst rising deaths in police custody in England and Wales, today, bereaved families led a silent procession to Downing Street to demand justice and accountability from new Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
Led by the United Families and Friends Campaign (UFFC), bereaved families and their supporters gathered at midday in Trafalgar Square before heading to Downing Street to hand deliver an open letter to Andy Burnham.
UFFC is a coalition of families whose loved ones have died because of violence, neglect, racism and discrimination within state institutions. This includes police, prisons and immigration detention centres, mental health units, care settings and homelessness services across the UK.
For over a quarter of a century, UFFC have been tirelessly campaigning to end all state killings, racist and misogynist policing, and prison expansion.
To date, no Prime Minister has agreed to meet UFFC representatives.
