There has been rising violence and intimidation from racist groups, particularly targeting refugees living in hotels across the country. Hackney Anti-Raids have pulled together some suggestions for migrants who might be faced with racist attacks as they go about their daily lives.
What to do if you are being filmed
- Do not engage or have a conversation with the person filming you.
- Do not answer any questions they ask you. They will often put the footage online, so try not to react and avoid arguing and fighting back
- Try to cover your face
- Tell them: ‘I did not give consent to be filmed. Please stop and delete it now’
- Speak loudly, calmly, and confidently so others can hear you
- Ask for help from bystanders if needed
- Walk away. They may follow you, but try to ignore them
- Walk into a public space like a shop or station or even a busy main road where people can help you
- You can try filming too. It may help de-escalate the situation and provide evidence you need later
